Growing up, every Friday night was horror night. My best friend Danielle and I would browse the aisles of our local Hollywood Video for the perfect scary movie. Every week was something new- Jeepers Creepers, Child’s Play, The Omen… We preferred the obscure movies that we could mock while watching. We would stay up throughout the night eating junk food and talking in order to stave off any nightmares. At least that’s why I was staying up and talking. Despite this weekly ritual, horror movies always terrified me in the same way that heights did… Yes, I’m terrified of heights, but somehow I always wanted to go on the biggest and fastest rollercoaster.
That was when I was 16. Now, 10 years later, I’m a bigger scaredy cat than ever before and if I don’t have to watch something that’s going to make me possibly wet the bed or see imaginary witches in the closet I won’t. Unless I get outvoted in a movie night. Like last night when my friends and I decided to stay in for a low key Friday night movie. But there is nothing low key about watching Sinister.
This was my view of the movie:
Because this is how grown ups watch horror movies. Under a blanket. Biting their nights. While compulsively eating popcorn.
Fortunately we cooled off with an episode of The Office or it would have been nightmares for days.
What’s a low key night for you?
Guys… Do you like horror movies?! Any suggestions for the next time I’m feeling wild?
I am the same way. I cannot watch half of what I use to!
What’s that about?! I was so much cooler when I was younger!
I know right!? lol
Never, ever been able to watch scary movies. My idea of a low key night is homemade dinner and maybe a romantic comedy or even family game night. Wait this is most nights for me. ๐
Then you are living the dream! There is nothing low key about sitting with abs clenched waiting at any given moment to scream.
At least you are getting an ab work out! ๐
Horror Movies freak me out. Especially ones with cracked out demon children. (Children of the Corn style.) I would have been right there with you! We could have built a fort. ๐
I had quite a low key night last night – I cooked a loaf of focaccia, a lamb curry with steamed green beans, my wife made a coffee cake with white chocolate ganagche (with tiramisu icecream), a dear friend came round to celebrate her birthday, and we opened a bottle of 2008 Merlot (my wife had bubbles), and we watched series 4 of Downton Abbey (1st 3 eps). Very low key, a wonderful saturday evening.(And this is about as good as it gets – perfect :-D). Hope you have a wonderful Saturday night, too.
Haha, I could have written this myself. I used to torment my brother through the wall separating our bedrooms by singing the one, two, Freddy’s coming for you song to him from Nightmare On Elm Street. I still love horror movies, but I’m much more afraid WHILE I watch them. I am frequently peering through my fingers. I blame that fact that CGI/graphics are so much better, plus I feel like horror movies have gotten more terrifying and take advantage of the “jump factor” with dramatic pauses for effect.
My girlfriends and I used to LOVE getting together to watch horror movies..and then I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night! I probably haven’t seen a horror movie in 2 years though..I can’t handle them anymore!
